Garden Route & Cape Town

South Africa & Mauritius

South Africa offers a spectacular and diverse golfing experience, blending world-class courses with breathtaking landscapes, a favourable climate, and rich cultural heritage.

From dramatic coastal layouts to mountainous inland designs and safari-style courses, South Africa caters to golfers seeking both quality and adventure.

At the forefront of South Africa’s golfing appeal is the Garden Route, a picturesque stretch along the southern coast known for its natural beauty and outstanding golf. Fancourt, near George, is the region’s standout destination. Home to three Gary Player-designed courses—The Links, Outeniqua, and Montagu—Fancourt offers luxury, variety, and challenge. The Links, in particular, is consistently ranked as South Africa’s top course and one of the best in the world, with its rugged design and championship pedigree.

Moving further west, Pinnacle Point in Mossel Bay delivers a jaw-dropping golfing experience, with holes perched on cliffs above the Indian Ocean. It’s not only visually stunning but also provides a memorable test of shot-making. Nearby Simola and Pezula in Knysna are set among forests and rolling hills, offering inland beauty with ocean views.

The Cape Town and Winelands area is another prime golf destination. Courses like Steenberg, De Zalze, and Erinvale are surrounded by vineyards and mountain backdrops, blending fine golf with world-class wine and cuisine. Clovelly Country Club, nestled between mountains and sea, is a local favourite known for its hospitality and charm.

In Gauteng, the country’s economic hub, top courses include Glendower, Royal Johannesburg & Kensington, and Serengeti, all of which have hosted major tournaments. The Johannesburg and Pretoria area boasts a strong golfing culture and excellent year-round conditions.

For a unique twist, South Africa offers safari golf—courses like Leopard Creek, bordering Kruger National Park, where wildlife and golf coexist in dramatic fashion. Designed by Gary Player, Leopard Creek features immaculate fairways overlooking crocodile-filled rivers and game-rich bushland, offering one of the most distinctive golf experiences in the world.

South Africa’s golfing infrastructure is complemented by high-quality accommodation, excellent food and wine, and very reasonable green fees by international standards. English is widely spoken, travel logistics are straightforward, and the country’s mix of beaches, mountains, cities, and safari parks allows golfers to build an unforgettable trip both on and off the course.

Golf in South Africa is more than just a sporting activity—it’s a full-sensory journey through dramatic landscapes and vibrant culture. Whether you’re teeing off above the ocean, alongside wildlife, or in the shadows of vineyards and mountains, South Africa offers a unique blend of challenge, beauty, and adventure that few countries can match.
