Wellington

New Zealand

Wellington’s premier golf clubs—Royal Wellington and Paraparaumu Beach—offer golfers a blend of championship pedigree, timeless beauty, and world-class challenge nestled in the region’s lush landscapes.

Royal Wellington Golf Club was established in 1895 in Heretaunga, Upper Hutt, the club relocated and opened its elegant 18-hole course and clubhouse by 1908

Widely regarded as a top-tier parkland layout, it sits beside the Hutt River, woven into native podocarp forest amidst rolling hills. The championship Heretaunga course, redesigned in 2013 by Greg Turner and Scott Macpherson, stretches its strategic fairways and sculpted bunkers across manicured terrain. Royal recognition came in 2004, and the club has hosted seven New Zealand Opens since 1912, cementing its status.

Paraparaumu Beach Golf ClubSet on Kapiti Coast dunes 45 minutes from Wellington, Paraparaumu Beach is hailed as “links golf at its purest”. Designed by Alex Russell in 1949, its undulating fairways and firm greens have challenged great champions, from Gary Player and Tiger Woods to Michael Campbell. With a course measuring about 6,577 yards (72.4 rating, slope 125), it blends stunning coastal vistas with strategic depth. Hosting a record 12 NZ Opens, it’s celebrated as the spiritual home of New Zealand golf

Together, Royal Wellington and Paraparaumu Beach deliver a compelling duo for golfers—combining heritage-rich parkland elegance with sweeping, windswept links drama in the heart of Wellington’s golfing landscape.
