Europe

Golf in continental Europe has grown into a world-class experience, offering diverse landscapes, rich cultural settings, and increasingly prestigious tournament venues.

Spain and Portugal lead the way in popularity, especially among northern Europeans seeking sun, sea, and golf. Spain’s Costa del Sol, often called the “Costa del Golf,” is home to numerous elite courses, including Real Club Valderrama, one of Europe’s finest. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Valderrama famously hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and continues to host professional events. Nearby, Finca Cortesín (host of the 2023 Solheim Cup), La Reserva, and San Roque Club offer championship golf in luxurious resort settings. Inland, the Madrid and Barcelona regions also feature top-tier golf with easy access to urban attractions.

Portugal’s Algarve region is similarly packed with excellent courses, such as Monte Rei, Quinta do Lago, and Dom Pedro Victoria, the latter a regular venue for the DP World Tour. With year-round sunshine, stunning coastal views, and outstanding hospitality, Portugal is a top destination for golf holidays.

France offers a blend of elegance and championship golf. Le Golf National, just outside Paris, hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup and remains a highlight for international golfers. The masterpiece of French golf is Morfontaine north of Paris, a wooded parkland course with great beauty and challenge. Along a similar vein are the private member courses of Golf de Chantilly and Golf de St. Germain whereas south of the country capital is the charming Golf de Fontainebleau.

Italy is an emerging golf destination, boosted by hosting the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club near Rome.

The Netherlands boasts classic links-style courses like Royal Hague, Kennemer Golf Club and Noordwijkse and inland Utrechet de Pan is a parkland masterpiece.

Sweden, Denmark, and Austria have built strong golfing communities and offer a variety of scenic, well-maintained courses. Sweden, in particular, has produced many top professionals and features courses like Bro Hof Slott and Barsebäck Golf & Country Club.

Golf in Norway has received a big boost recently with the Global recognition given to Lofoten Links, recently ranked in the World's Top 100 courses and located on Norway’s rugged Lofoten Islands above the Arctic Circle.

The course offers an extraordinary golfing experience surrounded by dramatic mountains and the Norwegian Sea and features breathtaking coastal holes and natural terrain. In summer, golfers can play under the midnight sun, making it one of the most unique and scenic destinations in the world.

Greece offers a growing selection of scenic golf courses, blending ancient history with modern design. Costa Navarino leads the way with world-class facilities and stunning seaside views. The Mediterranean climate ensures year-round play, while the relaxed pace and cultural richness make golfing in Greece a unique and enjoyable experience.

Europe’s continental golf scene blends culture, history, and challenging play for all golfers.
